What’s happening?

A programme of investment in the borough of Dudley began in 2019.

A number of key projects have already completed in Dudley town centre and further projects are planned over the next few years with construction for some developments running alongside each other.

Level Street, Merry Hill

Construction activity, including in the Brierley Hill and Merry Hill areas, is set to get underway for the second phase of the Black Country Metro extension beginning from Spring 2025. This work is expected to continue throughout 2025 and into 2026. These essential activities are required as part of the delivery for the second phase of the largest Metro extension being delivered anywhere in the UK. 

Works will take place in phases, starting with the preliminary construction works at Level Street, Merry Hill. Details of this works are as follows:

From 28 April to 22 June:

  • Lane closures will be in place on all the approaches to Level Street Island to accommodate works on the outer ring of the roundabout.
  • Pedestrians will need to use the designated crossing point during the works.

From 23 June to 15 August:

  •  Lane closures will be in place on all the approaches to Level Street Island to accommodate works on the inner ring of the roundabout.

Travel tips

You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:

Plan ahead and. allow extra time for your journey.
Consider alternative route where possible to avoid the disruption completely. If you are travelling towards Waterfront Way, an alternative route can be to continue further along the A4036 Pedmore Road and access via The Gateway.  
All bus services are running. You will still be able to get to where you need to go.
