What’s happening?
In the Washwood Heath area of Birmingham, works to accommodate the arrival of HS2 will be ongoing over the next decade and shortly gather momentum. These works include the demolition and reconstruction of both Aston Church Road overbridge and Saltley Viaduct.
The Saltley Viaduct works will begin upon completion of the Aston Church Road works. A new bridge will be constructed to carry the high speed train over the Lawley Middleway dual carriageway.
The first area of works will be begin in the area with the creation of a brand new bridge to carry the high speed train across the dual carriageway.

A47 Heartlands Parkway, Birmingham
Works to construct the new HS2 railway in the Washwood Heath area are continuing and at the start of the New Year there will be some changes to the road layout on the A47 Heartlands Parkway at the Aston Church roundabout.
There will be a full closure of the A47 Aston Church Road roundabout on the A47 from Saturday 4 January 2025 at 21:00 until Monday 6 January 2025 at 06:00 with a signed diversion route in place.
There will be also be a single lane closure Westbound only of the A47 from Aston Church roundabout to Saltley Viaduct roundabout. This will be in place from Monday 6 January 2025 for approximately 8 weeks.
Travel tips
You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:
